Notan Square - Dec. 2015
Japanese artists are brilliant. They have created so many neat ways to express oneself. One example of this is the "Notan square" which is an art technique in which shapes are cut out of a square and flipped to the outside. The term "Notan" refers to the balance between light and dark. In what ways do you see a balance between light and dark?
Pixel Art in Minecraft - Dec. 2015
Working with Minecraft - students created several examples of pixel art ranging from cartoon characters to their favorite foods.
Doodle 4Google - Dec. 2015
Every year, Google hosts an opportunity for young artists in grades K-12 to create a Google logo that represents a chosen theme. The 2015 theme was "What makes me... Me." Students worked hard to look closely at their personal interests, dreams and goals to come up with ideas for their designs. Any one of these designs would make great a great Google logo. Silver and Gold Tiles - December 2015
Students found a treasure when they created these creative clay tiles which emphasized the first letter of their name. Exploring line work and shape, these tiles turned out awesome!
Scarecrows - November 2015
Students did an awesome job and worked hard to create a scarecrow that explored various visual textures. Learning about the technique of "frottage," which is simply rubbing a color on top of a textured surface to create an a cool texture!
Personality Pinwheels - October 2015
Using their name and words that describe their personality and what they like, students designed these awesome pinwheels! Neat stuff!
Doug the Bug! Sketchbook Express practice.
Using the sketchbook express app, sixth grade artists used the character "Doug the Bug" and recreated him in a new environment. This student placed her bug in what looks like a pretty sketchy alley way - looks like Doug's enjoying his morning walk though!
